My paintings address the process of painting itself. A painting only exists within two paradigms. Construction (the creation) and De-construction (the presentation). The relationship of construction and de-construction is very symbiotic almost Cartesian in its principles (i.e. positive-negative, good-evil, mind-body). One cannot exist without the other. I try to disrupt this relationship by having my paintings invade the negative space around it. My paintings are intentionally jagged with noticeable gaps and edges letting the wall invade the picture plane, and causing cast shadows all around it. Where the painting is hung and how it’s lit will greatly affect its appearance (even more so than normal). I have intentionally tried to break down the relationships of positive and negative space, as well as, constructive and de-constructive view points. I can only explore this relationship through my visual media. The rest of this relationship is the viewers to discover.
