Traceyʼs current oil paintings use line, shape and color to reflect the complexities of memory -- sometimes forgotten, buried, disguised, exaggerated or reinvented. Her oils also incorporate graphite and charcoal to evoke the powerful emotions triggered by recollection, however accurate or welcome. Like human memory, her paintings blend the conscious and the subconscious to produce internal resonance. “Your memory is a monster; you forget -- it doesnʼt. It simply files things away. It keeps things for you, or hides things from you -- and summons them to your recall with will of its own. You think you have a memory -- but it has you!” John Irving from A Prayer for Owen Meany Email: russelltracey@rocketmail.com Website: traceyrussell.com. |
