| I draw inspiration from the natural world and am interested in sharing what is, in essence, my visual thinking. As well as an articulation of the aesthetic story, there is a physicality and sensuality in the handling of the paint that I continue to celebrate. I am curious about the sensation of space and depth on a two dimensional surface and attempt to include those sensations in my work. When looking at the canvas, I want the viewer to think that a complex story is interesting, is rewarding, and is interrelated as it often is in the natural world. Today, the parallels I draw to connect humans and the natural world can be explained by thinking about the great number of plants in our world that manifest in diverse forms. Think about the structure, the function it performs, the central axis, the orientation- upright or prone, how it responds, how it thrives in different environments which draws parallels to human life. Plants adapt to different stimuli and often thrive in uncertain and harsh conditions. They also thrive especially well in optimum conditions. Humans, too, respond to different environments. We manifest diverse characteristics, and often thrive when conditions prove optimal. Isn't that what life is about – to thrive, to feel aware, to be curious of life – to be actively engaged in the process of living. Email: lriegle@comcast.net |
